Mais uma famosa praça de Roma, desta vez no Monte Capitolino entre o Forúm Romano e o antigo Campo de Marte.
No século XVI, por ordem do Papa Paulo III, Miguelangelo criou esta agradável praça que podemos contemplar depois de subir a Cordonata. No topo dessa mesma Cordonata, duas estátuas de Dioscuri, dois gémeos Castor e Pólux que apesar de terem a mesma mãe são de pais diferentes. A mãe era Leda, mulher de Tíndaro (Rei de Esparta) e foi seduzida por Zeus pai de Pólux.
Another famous square of Rome, this time in the Capitoline Hill between the Roman Forum and the ancient Campus Martius.
In the sixteenth century by order of Pope Paul III, Michelangelo created this pleasant square which we can contemplate after climbing the Cordonata. No topo podemos ver a praça com os seus três palácios e ao centro uma réplica da estátua equestre do imperador romano Marco Aurélio cujo original está no Museu Capitolino instalado nos dois palácios que estão na lateral.
Os palácios que fazem o enquadramento da praça são o Palazzo Nuevo, o de la Conservatori e o de Senatorio que é o que podemos ver ao centro. Os dois primeiros funcionam como o Museu do Capitolino e o último serve de sede da Câmara de Roma.
At the top we can see the square with its three palaces and at the center a replica statue of Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius whose original is in the Capitoline Museum installed in the two palaces that are on the side.

Nas escadas que dão acesso ao edificio do Palazzo Senatori está uma fonte que ao centro tem a Deo Roma, uma representação de Minerva a deusa romana da guerra mas também das artes e da sabedoria. Nas laterais estão duas estátuas representando dois rios, uma o Nilo e outra o Tibre.
Outro bom motivo para visitar esta praça é que estando assente no Monte Capitolino tem uma vista extraordinária para o antigo Fórum Romano e podemos ver até um pouco do Coliseu.
